James Florendo, Color Guard Director
James Florendo now serves as the Director of Color Guards at Mirabeau B. Lamar International Baccalaureate High School in Houston, Texas In the school’s brief history, the color guard has established itself as a consistent caption award winner at local marching contests and as a TCGC silver medalist.
Mr. Florendo began his color guard career at the Bryan College Station Area in Texas. He was a member of both the marching band and winter guard during all four of his high school years. During his time there, he earned the awards for “Director’s Choice Award” and “Most Dedicated Color Guard Member” at the BCG Banquet where he would first encounter drum corps. In 2023, he continued to pursue his love for color guard as an A line Weapon member of the Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps. For the 2024 season, he was a member of the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps, serving as an A line weapon for the 2024 summer tour. There he received the “Most Improved Member” award. He plans to continue Drum Corps until he ages out. Aside from his drum corps years, Mr. Florendo also performed in WGI with BCG and in the future, a World Class Indoor Guard.
In 2023, Mr. Florendo started his educator career with Navarro Elementary and Henderson Elementary, where he taught kids English, Math, and Music. He also choreographed and helped design multiple ensembles from 2022 to present day.
Mr. Florendo is working behind the scenes on his degree in Health Science and Dental Hygiene. His degree will help him become aware of his performers when they are injured. Mr. Florendo will reside in Houston, Texas, where he works as a Guard Designer for other programs and enjoys watching his alma mater’s color guard and other guards in his free time.
Mr. Florendo is extremely excited to be working with the Lamar color guard and can't wait to help inspire future members.
